The software application Project: Snowblind. The company - Eidos Interactive, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software. The scenario - A globally distributed team with development engineers in the Netherlands, and throughout Europe, and QA in United States.
Eidos has signed a world-wide licensing agreement with Replay Solutions to provide their projects with Replay technology. The QA team leveraged ReplayDIRECTOR™ to record their software as they tested it. This team faced a difficult bug that occurred only when a high number of users concurrently accessed the application. Thanks to Replay, the QA team used the solution to record the bug happening on three separate occasions. Next, they attached the Replay recording to a bug report where the team overseas could access it. In just a few minutes, the offshore development team was able to reproduce the bug.
Once the developers in Netherlands had the Replay data, it was a simple task of watching the crash happen, then stepping through the code in the debugger, one line at a time. They leveraged additional debugging info from the recording, replayed the bug again, and found the root cause& memory corruption. The fix was made and a new build was sent to the QA team in the U.S. within hours.
"..you really recognize the value of [Replay] when you're in crunch... we were able to get the turn-around time down from days, to minutes" said John Chowanec, Project Producer of Project: Snowblind.
This is just one of the many stories of difficult problems solved by globally distributed companies with the help of Replay Solutions. For more use-case scenarios, testimonials, and product information, please visit our website at http://www.replaysolutions.com.
